Dale Arthur Toogood age 77, life time resident of Mecosta County, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012. Dale left this life to join his parents, Carl and Selma, his sister Joyce, his son David, and his special friend of many years Betty. Dale led a full life and will be remembered as a Master Mechanic, community volunteer, and friend to many. Dale was active throughout the last eighteen months of his life in spite of having been diagnosed with cancer. He enjoyed his daily trips to William's Cafe for breakfast, and to Chippewa East Bay Market to pick up his newspapers. Last summer he participated in the Blanchard Steam and Tractor Show and was able to connect with many old friends. He was also an active member of the Big Rapids Antique Tractor Club. For the last month of his life Dale returned to his family's farm where he lived throughout most of his childhood. His son Jeff and wife Sharon opened their home to provide Dale a loving and supportive end. During this time Dale was tenderly cared for and visited by his children Judi, Kimberly, Dale Eric and his former wife Nancy Sharp, daughter in-law Karen; grandchildren Stacy and her husband John, Jason and his wife Teresa, Travis, Jared, Seth, Massimiliano, and Violet. Also spending time with their great grandpa were Avery, Myah, Nora and Isaac. Sending love from afar are grandchildren Hannah, Ryan and Caitlyn. Dale is also survived by his sisters Carol Lattimore, Marge Randolph and their families. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and his dog Flicka. Dale made his career putting his superb mechanical skills to work through employment for many years at Frank and Wood Chevrolet, and later at his own gas station- Dale's Total. In addition Dale served as a volunteer fireman for the City of Big Rapids. Dale has requested his family and friends gather at the Martiny Township Cemetery near his home to share in a memorial service 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012. There will be a luncheon to follow at the Chippewa Lake Community Center. Memorial contributions in Dale's name may be made to Hospice of Michigan. Envelopes may be picked up at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
