Cyrus R. Jetter, age 68, loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and friend, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Big Rapids on Wednesday, April 20, 2011. He was born on June 20, 1942 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Cyrus C. and Mabel (Haglund) Jetter. Cyrus graduated from Morley High School in 1960. He was a chemical engineer world renowned in the field of ceramic permanent magnet material. These developments increased the magnetic performance. He established five different manufacturing magnetic mills, one in Italy and Israel. Cyrus married Karen M. Balcom Kohn on March 19, 1988 in Mt. Jewett, PA. They made their home where his career led them and upon retirement in 2004 they moved to their home on the Muskegon River where he could enjoy watching nature. He was preceded in death by his parents. Cyrus is survived by his loving wife of 24 years Karen of Big Rapids; sons, Gregory (BJ) Jetter of Ringgold, GA, Douglas Jetter of Chattanooga, TN, Warren Jetter of Chattanooga, TN, Lars (Stefanie) Jetter of Morrow, Ohio; daughter, Rebecca (Robert) Kirk of Chickamauga, GA; stepchildren, Sherry (Dan) Fisk of Howard City, Kathy (Blaine) Adams of Louisville, KY, Kevin Kohn of Louisville, KY; 17 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann (Walter) Weber of Ravenna; three beloved cats, Sadie Mae, Sophie Rose and Georgio Roy. He will be dearly missed by all. He was a great man with a good heart, a real giver. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with the family greeting friends from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service.
