Conrad R. Johnson, age 84 of Stanwood, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2007. He was born November 30, 1922 in Big Rapids to Wilhelm and Margaret (Zuke) Johnson. Conrad was honorably discharged from the United States Army serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Following the service, he returned to Big Rapids and worked as a mechanic for several years for Top Taggart. Conrad later worked at McDonald Tool and Die in Grand Rapids where he was one "Fantastic Welder" . For the past 35 years, Conrad has made his home in the Stanwood area. He is survived by his five children; Darlene (Ken) Hahn of Big Rapids,Darryl (Kathy) Johnson of Ashton, Cheryl (Gary) Cook of Big Rapids,Kerry (Rich) Seymour of Grand Rapids and Karl "Scott" (Nikki) Johnson of Germany, 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren Three brothers; Erland (Gloria) Johnson of Big Rapids, Kenneth (Janice Johnson of Stanwood and Art (Cathy) Johnson of Ala. Three sisters; Eva (Richard) Cone of Sparta, Anna Ruse of Muskegon and Alice Dunn of Big Rapids and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Conrad was preceded in death by his wife Pauline in 2005, a daughter; Connie Cole, a brother, Bill and two sisters; Carol and Doris. An evening funeral service will take place 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 18th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral home in Big Rapids with Eric Gernert officiating. The family will greet friends today (Tuesday) at the funeral home from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
