Clifford V. S. "Cliff" Reed (1927-2024)
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Clifford V. S. "Cliff" Reed, of Stanwood, Michigan, on January 28, 2024, at the age of 96 years. Born in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada, on May 16, 1927, he was the cherished son of Montague and Alice (Young) Reed.
Cliff exemplified dedication and service to his country through his honorable five-year tenure in the Canadian Navy. His professional journey began as a skilled machinist for the railroad in Canada, and he later continued his career with C&O Railroad in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Cliff's commitment to excellence was evident in his subsequent role as a machine repairman at General Motors, from which he retired after a commendable 30-year tenure.
Settling on the serene banks of the Muskegon River in Stanwood, Michigan, Cliff shared a joyful life with his beloved wife, Patricia "Pat" (Goretzka) Reed, whom he married on May 2, 1981. A man of the outdoors, Cliff's happiest moments were spent tending to his property, engaging in family projects, or navigating the river waters on his pontoon. His trips back to Canada with Pat to reconnect with his roots were treasured experiences, embodying his deep-rooted values in family and heritage.
A loving grandfather and great-grandfather, Cliffs presence brought immeasurable joy and laughter to his family. His fondness for his Newfoundland dogs throughout his life spoke volumes of his compassionate nature.
Cliff leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his wife of 42 years, Pat Reed; his children, Alice (Daniel) Rhodes and Mont (Nina) Reed; his grandchildren, Daniel (Cynthia), Joshua (Jackie), Brad (fiance Lindsey), Nora (fianc Zac), and Bricker; and his great-grandchildren, Duke, Elle, Kashton, Kohen, Knox, and Klaire. He is also fondly remembered by his sister-in-law, Catherine Tassel, brother-in-law Michael Goretzka and several nieces and nephews. Cliff was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Alfred (Margaret) Reed and his sister-in-law, Sylvia (Al) Bristol.
