Obituary

Cletus R. Sweet, age 75 of Paris, left us long before we were ready to let him go. He died suddenly, Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Mecosta County Medical Center in Big Rapids. Clet was born March 5, 1933 in Barton Township, Newaygo County. He was the son of William and Beulah (Rogers) Sweet. Always an independent spirit; Clet set out on his own at age nine, settling in Paris to live with his brother Clifford. Clet was employed by Paris Gravel for over 30 years and then went into business for himself as owner/operator of "Sweet Sand and Gravel" . He married Sandra L. Ray-Caudill on January 20, 1996 in Paris. Clet was an active and dedicated member of the Paris Trail Blazers Club, a member of Eagles Aerie #2535 of Big Rapids, an avid tractor puller and bowled with the same team of friends for over 30 years. Clet will always be remembered as a kind and generous man with a quick wit and the "gift of gab" . He was beloved by many dear friends and family members and will never be forgotten. Clet is survived by his loving wife Sandy of Paris; A son, Timothy (Kathy) Sweet of Chase; 2 daughters, Kristi (Jeff) Wirth of Paris, Tamara Sweet of Alma; 2 Step-children, Kimberly Caudill of Mt. Pleasant and Roger Caudill of Big Rapids; 4 grandchildren, Jacqueline Sweet of Chase, Manaya Wirth of Paris, Dani Sweet of Chase and Hailey Wirth of Paris; 2 sisters, Virginia (Bob) Thomas of Greenville, Alvina Swaver of Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Clet was preceded in death by his brother, Clifford Sweet. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 26th at the First United Methodist Church, 304 Elm Street in Big Rapids with Pastor Michael Riegler officiating. The family will greet friends on Wednesday at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in Clet's name may be made to the Paris United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Special Olympics.
