Claude Lowen Eveland, age 69 of Big Rapids, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, February 25, 2015. He was born December 22, 1945 to Clyde A. and Gerthene J. (Cole) Eveland in Luther. He graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1964. On June 22, 1968 he married Nancy Shaner in Hughesville, PA. Claude was a Vietnam Veteran, serving three years in the United States Army with the 815th Engineer Battalion. He was honorably discharged on October 11, 1968. . Claude worked many years in maintenance, retiring in 2010. He was a member of the Woodville Community Church in White Cloud. He spent several years giving his time in children's ministries at Trinity Fellowship Church in Big Rapids. Claude was a tractor and motorcycle enthusiast who used his talents with mechanics to help others. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nancy (Shaner) Eveland of Big Rapids; one son, Clyde D. (Dawn) Eveland of Willow, AK; one daughter, Susan C. (John) Miedema of Big Rapids; one granddaughter, Kaitlin Daly; four grandsons, John and David Miedema and Michael and Allen Eveland; three sisters, Pauline (Gerald) Lofquist of Caledonia, Darlene Vaughn and Rennell (Gary) Rasmussen both of Big Rapids; Five brothers, Nelson (Joyce) Eveland, Rick (Sue) Eveland, Donald (Brenda) Eveland all of Paris, Jason Eveland of Big Rapids and Kalen (Karla) Eveland of Grand Rapids; four brothers-in-law; nine sisters-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Claude was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clyde D. and Merle "Mike" Eveland; two sisters, Judy Vandewater-Buber and Aundria "Andie" Graham; eight brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2015 at the Woodville Community Church, 6206 N. Pine Ave., White Cloud, with Pastor Brett Werner officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1st at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids and one hour prior to services 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Church. Interment will be held at Goodwell Township Cemetery in the Spring.
