Clarence E. West, age 83 of Barryton, was called to his Lord Sunday, March 18, 2012 at his home. He was born May 18, 1928 in Detroit, the son of Dale and Mildred Kreske West. Clarence left school during the 8th grade to go to the U.P. to work in logging camps. He later returned to Kalamazoo where he met his future wife, Lucille. They were married on October 8, 1949 and together they made their home and started raising their family in Bangor. Clarence worked in tool and die at Du-Wel Metal Product. In 1962 they moved to Barryton where they raised their family. Clarence went back to school and graduated high school in 1969 while he worked at Denhams Products in Big Rapids until it closed. He was employed by the Mecosta County Intermediate School System until he retired in 1999. Clarence enjoyed trapping and fishing and taking cruises with his wife. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Clarence loved his church family and his extended families at Holly's Caf and Riverside Station. Clarence is survived by 6 children, Millie (Ron) Sandelius of Cedar Springs, Harry West of Barryton, Avison (Barb) West of Golden Valley, AZ, Bill (Diann) West of South Boardman, Rose (Chris) Petersen of Greenville and Frank (Liz) West of Stanwood; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother Dale West Jr. of Bangor. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Gloria Giovanelli and his wife Lucille in 2007. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Clarence's life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 12775 Northland Drive, Big Rapids followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Clarence's memory may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Big Rapids.
