Christopher D. Mekkes, age 38 of Mecosta, passed away Monday, October 11, 2010 at his home. Chris was born January, 30, 1972 in Big Rapids, the son of Donald and Wilma (Eichenberg) Mekkes. He graduated from Chippewa Hills High School in 1992. On October 6, 2001 he married Jeanette M. White and they made their home in Mecosta. Chris worked for Ventra formerly known as Evart Products in Evart and in his spare time enjoyed cooking, paintball and skeet shooting. He was a member of the Mecosta Rod and Gun Club and attended New Hope United Methodist Church in Mecosta. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Mekkes and the children he loved spending time with and adored Logan and Brianna Mekkes of Mecosta; his beloved parents, Don and Wilma of Rodney; one sister Angela (William) Quigley and their children, Will and Alena of Big Rapids; grandparents, Ron (Betty) Eichenberg of Hawkins and Dorothy Fritz of Dorr. He is also survived by many Aunts, Uncles, cousins and close friends. Chris was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Elvira Kolk and Allie Meloche. Funeral services for Chris will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 2010 at New Hope United Methodist Church (7296 9Mile Rd. Mecosta) with Pastor Victor Charnley officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Chippewa Lake Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Memorial donations in Chris' name will go towards a trust for Logan and Brianna that has been set up at Chemical Bank in Big Rapids.
