Christopher D. Drews Sr., age 57 of Big Rapids, formerly of Omaha, NE passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at his home. He had fought a long and courageous battle with heart disease. He was born August 7, 1954 in Big Rapids the son of Robert and Mary Belle (Routley) Drews. Chris was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He had made his home in Omaha, NE for many years returning to Michigan about four years ago. Chris was a member of AmVets Post #1941 of Big Rapids and had served on the American Legion Post #98 Firing Squad. Chris will be forever remembered for his silly jokes and hearty laugh by his many friends and family members including his wife, Kathy Drews of Big Rapids, three children; Sandra Drews Carpenter of Clare, Christopher Drews Jr. of Coleman, Nicole Drews of Beaverton, a step-daughter, Shanna Dawn Hernandaz of Omaha, NE; 11 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; his mother Mary Belle (Routley) Drews of Big Rapids; two brothers, Richard (Jan) Drews of Vandalia, Alfred (Laurie) Drews of Big Rapids; a sister, Sandy Drews of Big Rapids; a father-in-law, Paul A. Thompson of Iowa; sister-in-law, Sue Richards of Omaha, NE; two brothers-in-law, William (Rose) Thompson of Omaha, NE, John (Deb) Thompson of Hawkinsville, GA and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert S. "Bob" Drews and his grandparents, David and Phoebe Routley. A memorial service is planned for 12:00 p.m. (noon) Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the AmVets Post #1941 in Big Rapids.
