Chris C. Finkbeiner, age 90 of Paris, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at his home surrounded by his children and beloved pet and companion, "Super Boy". He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. Chris was born on the family farm in Hersey on May 24, 1927, being the sole survivor of Christ and Nora (Young) Finkbeiners eight children. He attended Reed City High School where he played basketball on the state championship team and football. Chris was drafted out of high school by the United States Army, serving in Germany during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1947. Chris earned his diploma from Big Rapids High School in 1968. He spent his summers working on his maternal grandparents (Byron and Josephine Young) farm in Ashton.
Chris married Donna Mae Hoffman on August 19, 1950 and together they purchased a farm in Paris, Michigan. Chris built his familys home and barn on the farm where he could continue his passion as a farmer. Chris and Donna enjoyed spending the winters in Country Aire Village Park, Zephyrhills, Florida for many years.
Throughout his lifetime, he also worked various jobs; including, a delivery driver for Coca-Cola, construction worker building Ferris State University, plant superintendent at Hanchett Magna Lock/Hitachi Magna Lock, and sales representative for Quality Farm and Fleet. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and attended a number of games during spring training and at the old Tiger Stadium. Chris enjoyed the outdoors; deer hunting and fishing.
He was the patriarch to his family and friends and to those who knew him. Chris was a strong man with an engineering mind and a "can do" attitude. His favorite saying was "get with it", a tribute to his approach of the life he led and loved.
Chris family was his pride and joy. He always made it a point to include others that he thought of as family. Chris is survived by his four daughters, Diana Lynn (Mike) Ropele, Christine Kay (Tom) Hurst, Deborah Alynn OShea, and Susan Marie (Jim) Brown; grandchildren, John, Teri, Chris, Holly, Tom, Tim, Hayley, Christopher, Tyler, Andy, Luke, and Jake; great-grandchildren, Libby, Evan, Teagan, Trevor, Taylor, River, Jayden, Tommy, Tyler, Timmy, Alana, Amaya, Kay, Alex, Sammy, Aven, Ava, Elle, Emme, Daymian, Maliki, Gage, McKenzie, Shane, Caydence, Gavin, Paige, Ryan, Elan, Tristan, and Caden; great-great-grandchild, Reagan; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings, and wife of 58 years, Donna.
Chris family had a 90th birthday party for him in May and felt that most everyone was able to attend; they are very thankful for the memories that were made that day and the friends and family that were there. Since this was so recent, the family is not having services at this time and per Chris wishes, cremation has taken place.
