Charlotte Treva Ellison, age 82 of Stanwood passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, surrounded by her grandchildren, sister, and a special niece. She was at peace and looked forward to joining her beloved husband, her son, and her daughter in Heaven! Charlotte was born at home on the family farm in Austin Township near Stanwood on October 2, 1931. She was the youngest of four daughters born to Dewey & Rhea Crame. She lived in the Stanwood area her entire life and attended many one-room schoolhouses and Morley High School. She worked at the Stanwood Hospital as a nurse's aide until she fell in love with Albert (Bob) Zane Ellison. It was love at first sight for Charlotte. They were married on December 3, 1949 in Stanwood. They shared 58 beautiful years of marriage. Together on their farm they raised a son, Jerry, and a daughter, Janet. They were blessed with 8 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. After the birth of her children, Charlotte became a homemaker. She was a natural homebody and loved having children around her. It was rare to visit her home and not find at least one of her grandchildren, nieces, or nephews there. She was a loving mother and "THE" perfect grandmother! Her grandchildren will fondly cherish memories of long walks, mushroom hunting, catching snakes and frogs at the pond, saving wildlife, and simply listening to Grandma telling a story! She instilled in her children a love of all living things, a dedication to family, and a respect for others. She was kind to everyone she met and always routed for the underdog. She is survived by her seven grandchildren: Dan Ellison, Keith (Johnna) Ellison, Amy (Troy) Parker all of Stanwood, Michelle Bigelow of Manton, Melinda (JJ) Higgins, Melissa "Mindy" (Toby) Smith, Misty (Shannon) Cooley all of Stanwood; 20 great-grandchildren (0ne more on the way), 3 great-great-grandchildren (one more on the way); a sister Betty (Robert Sr.) Jensen of Stanwood; a daughter-in-law, Lora Ellison; a special niece, Darlene "Dolly" Marek and a special sister-in-law, June (Bob) Spedowski all of Stanwood; and many, many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband Bob on May 24, 2008; her parents Dewey & Rhea Crame; her children Janet Bowman in July 2010 and Gerald "Jerry" Ellison in October 2013; an infant granddaughter, Marcie; and two sisters, Alice Incensio and Darlene Ellison. In accordance with Charlotte's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 7:00 pm on Friday, October 10th at the Stanwood Free Methodist Church on Pierce Rd in Stanwood with coffee and sweets to follow in the fellowship hall. The family will greet friends and family one hour prior to the service on Friday. Arrangements entrusted to Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions can be left at the funeral home or the church during the service and will be donated to Hospice of Michigan in Charlotte's memory.
