Charlotte A. Barnum, age 87 of Morley, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019. She was born June 9, 1931, in Scottville, the daughter of Carl and Beatrice (Vaughn) Smith. Charlotte married P.T. Barnum on June 17, 1949, in Grand Rapids and together they raised their daughter throughout western Michigan. She retired from Wolverine World Wide and began her employment at Zylstras Restaurant in Howard City. Charlotte enjoyed her family, and cooking and baking for them. She attended First Baptist Church in Lakeview. Charlotte is survived by her daughter, B. Carol (Andrew) Benson of Morley; four grandchildren, Andrew Jr. (Renee) Benson, Trina (Stephen) Knox, Shavonne (Robert) Vandermaas, and Patrick (Naomi) Benson; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, P.T. Barnum on December 7, 1996; four brothers, Marshall, Jake, Clyde, and Russell Smith; and a sister, Roline Wallager. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is pending. Arrangements and care are entrusted to the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
