Charles L. "Lee" Messer, age 64 of Stanwood, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at home surrounded by his children. He was born May 3, 1951 in Grand Rapids, the son of Wayne and Marguerite (Harrington) Messer. Lee married Mary Roszell and together they made their home in Stanwood for more than 25 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed watching wrestling and Nascar. Lee was employed by Jims Shootin Shack in Mecosta for 15 years before he began working for Meijer in Big Rapids.
He is survived by eight children, 27 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way; one sister, Martha Kornoely of Grand Rapids; two nephews; father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Marlene Roszell; as well as many extended family members, in-laws, friends, and his beloved dog, Peanut.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Messer in 2015; brother-in-law, Glen Kornoely; Uncle Francis and Aunt Goldie; and daughter-in-law, Chana Messer.
Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Ron Witbeck officiating. The family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
