Charles E. McMullen Sr., age 81 of Hersey, passed away Monday, July 22, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 1, 1932 in Monroe, MI, the son of Everett and Viola (LaVine) McMullen. He greatly enjoyed hunting and working on vehicles. He served his country in the United States Air Force. His greatest enjoyment was family reunions, horse shoes, playing cards and dancing. Charles worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years. He is survived by his loving family, Joyce McMullen of Hersey and children, Susan (David) Yonkin of South Carolina, Debra (Raymond) Metcalf of Evart, Cheryl Asher of South Lyon, Connie (Gary) Coffey of Hersey, Lonnie (Joy) McMullen of South Lyon, Charles (Lisa) McMullen Jr. of Florida, Tammy (Tom) Wiedmann of Stevensville, Joyce (Scott) Derrick of Florida; two step-children, Kathy (Denny) Miller of LaSalle and Buddy Church (Missouri); 56 grandchildren; 97 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Morris (Gladys) McMullen of Monroe, Billy (Elaine) McMullen of LaSalle, a sister; Bertha Miller of Monroe and many nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by one daughter, four sisters and one brother. A memorial gathering will take place 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Westerburg Park, Reed City. The family requests that memorial contributions be given in his memory to the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids where arrangements were made.
