Charles "Wesley" Kern, age 84, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at his home in Barryton with his family at his side. Wes was born on August 23, 1932, to Charles Echol and Lelia (Adams) Kern in Imboden, VA. Wes went to school in Big Stone Gap, Virginia and finished his GED in 1973.

Wes moved to the Barryton area and started working for Lyle Gingrich before gaining employment at Ferris State College. He worked at Ferris for over 35 years retiring in 1994 as supervisor of the moving crew.

Wes was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge 424 in Weidman and a former member of the Mecosta County Sheriff Posse. He was an active gardener sharing his produce with family and friends.

Wes is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years Julaine (Cramer) Kern of Barryton; sons, John (Connie) Kern of Warren, Texas, Jack (Susie) Kern of Ashley, Don Kern of Grand Rapids, and Tom Kern of Adrian; grandchildren John (Stephanie) Kern Jr., Caroline Marie (Calvin) Roe, Ashley Bruguier, Janice Howell, Jason Speegle; Jeremy (Krysta) Kern, Eric Kern; Katherine (Shawn) Burch, Donald Kern II; Thomas (Stevie Chrisco) Kern Jr.; Linda (Frank) Hevel; Great-grandchildren: Chase, Casey, Daniel, Spencer, Bradley, RayLynn, Skyler, Tyler, Austin, Aiden, Cody, Carly, Ashley, Amber, Alexis, Integra, Owen, Megan, Baker, Lelia; great-great grandson Ian; and siblings, Jim (Mary Ann) Kerns and Ronnie (Jane) Kern.

Wes was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Lauraine Emmons.

The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 30th at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton and two hours prior to funeral services on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.at the funeral home, where he was previously employed for 35 years.

A celebration of Wes life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with Pastor Rick Lippert officiating. Wes will be laid to rest at East Fork Cemetery in Barryton.
