Obituary

Charles "Fred" Bauer, age 79 of Weidman, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 6, 2021, at his home. He was born in Beal City on October 27, 1941, the son of Frederick "Carl" and June (Murtland) Bauer. Fred was raised following the Catholic faith. He was a hard worker. Fred began working as a Farm Hand on Paschs farm as a young boy. He later became employed by Bay City Roofing, retiring after 20 years. Fred married Vickie D. Metcalf on November 23, 1963, in Midland where they made their home. In the late 1970s they moved to Weidman, where he currently resided. Fred and Vickie started their camping adventures as early as Easter weekend, no matter the weather. He enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as watching Westerns and John Wayne. Fred had a sense of humor; you could always find him joking and picking on someone. He liked to spend time outside in the shop where he was an excellent Tinkering Supervisor. Fred had a big heart with lots of love for his family. He opened his heart and his home and treated his grandchildren like they were his own. Fred is survived by his four children, Laura (Mark Abbott) Loomis, Charles H. (Lori Patterson) Bauer, Dennis (Jeanette Conroy) Bauer, and Vernon Bauer; ten grandchildren, Johnny (Chloe Rivard) Loomis Jr., Angela (Ben Gilmer) Loomis, Amanda (Truscott Smith) Loomis, Jeremy Loomis, Harley Pardee, Zachary (Lizzi Scott), Caleb, Jared, Jason, and Jake Bauer; six great-grandchildren, Josh, Valerie, Jace, Wesley, Vera, and Liam; brother, Ken (Diane) Bauer; sister, Adele Richardson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Vickie Bauer on May 7, 2010, infant daughter Angela Bauer, two brothers Ronald "Ronnie" Bauer and Robert "Bob" Bauer. The family will greet friends while following the government guidelines, please social distance, wear a mask, and 25 people will be allowed in at a time, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2021 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton.
