Obituary

Charlene K. "Char" Lovelette, age 66 of Stanwood, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, January 25, 2015 at her home. She was born November 5, 1948 in Jackson, Mich., the daughter of Asa and Margaret (Town) Lazarus. Char was raised in Florida following the Christian faith. In August 1999, she married Arnold Lovelette in Jerome, Mich. and later they moved to the Stanwood area. Char embraced her Native American heritage. She enjoyed doing intricate beadwork and attended a number of Pow Wows as a trader. Char is survived by her husband, Arnold Lovelette of Stanwood; four children, Kimberley Kay Gillard of Imlay City, Kevin B. (Charmin) Gillard of Indiana, Barb A. (Mark) Berlin of Indiana and Daniel J. (Angela Steele) Mazur of Utah; four step-children, Lee H. (Susan) Lovelette of Lapeer, Suzanne M. (Tim) Smith of Olivet, Amy Jo (Greg) Zachow of Litchfield and Erin M. (Gordie) Bigelow of Jerome; numerous grandchildren and step-grandchildren; a sister, Catherine Louise (Ray) Cowles of Florida; a brother, David L. (Marylou) Barton of Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial gathering will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon) Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions in Char's name may be made to the Grand Valley American Indian Lodge; 401 Ferris NW, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49544.
