Catherine "Cathy" E. (Porterfield) Weed, age 60 of Morley, passed into the arms of her waiting savior Jesus Christ Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was born May 14, 1951 in Big Rapids, the daughter of Clifford and Vivian (Hamlet) Porterfield. Cathy graduated from Morley-Stanwood High School in 1969. She and Doug Weed were married September 22, 1970 in Stanwood and raised their family in the Morley area. Together they attended the Northland United Methodist Church. She was a strong, loving person with a sense of humor. Cathy was one to never let you forget. She would give Doug a hard time when they shared memories of their one day honeymoon and when he forgot their anniversary and he bought a chainsaw and said it was a gift for Cathy. She was blessed with many talents; some of them including arts, crafts and making different Indian artifacts. Through a lifetime of adversity, Cathy always remained positive and she would remind her family, "This too shall pass." She will be greatly missed. Cathy is survived by her husband of 40 years, Doug Weed of Morley; 2 children, Teresa Moody of Houghton Lake and Doug (Lora) Weed of Big Rapids; 6 grandchildren, Vivian, Autumn, Dougie, Hanna, Casey and Pete; 3 brothers and sisters, Pat (Jim) Hall, Bob (Linda) Porterfield and Judith "Dusty" (John) Aldridge; many nieces and nephews. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Jean Leschuk and Bev Smithingell; a brother, Ernest "Bud" Porterfield. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Northland United Methodist Church in Stanwood with Pastor Dominic Tommy and Bill Routley officiating. Interment will be at the Stanwood Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Friday (today), July 1st at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to service at the church.
