Catherine T. Sundet, age 96 of Big Rapids, passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 at Altercare of Big Rapids, where she had made her home for many years. She was born January 7, 1921 in Ellis, South Dakota the daughter of Ben and Stella (Ellens) Akkerman. ]Catherine married Harris Sundet on July 16, 1940; together they lived and raised their family in Mora, MN. Harris passed away in 1968 and a few years later Catherine moved to the Mecosta County area. Catherine was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids. She was very active in her church and the community. On June 19, 1991, she was honored to receive the Mary Pine Elder Citizenship Award. Catherine is survived by her four children, Janet (Bill) Barnes of Rodney, Marvin (Judy) Sundet of Brook Park, MN, Sandra Bovingdon of Naples, FL, Duane Sundet of Donna, TX; eleven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Opdahl of Medford Oregon and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother, Charles Akkerman. A memorial service for Catherine will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids with Pastor Rebecca Morrison officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services. A summer burial of cremains will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora, Minnesota.
