Catherine H. Marlette, age 95, lifelong resident of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 29, 2017, in Lansing. She was born on June 14, 1922 in Big Rapids, to Elroy and Edna (Akom) Godfrey. Catherine was a 1940 graduate of Big Rapids High School. She married Jack Marlette on June 10, 1943. Catherine worked for the draft board during WWII, was a secretary at the Big Rapids High School, held several other positions in local businesses and spent most of her life as a housewife, caring for her family. She lived a fulfilling life spending time with family and friends, traveling around the world, dancing, bowling, cooking, sewing, and spending the latter part of her life as a member of St. Mary St. Paul Catholic Church in Big Rapids. Catherine is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Glen) Ward of Big Rapids, Candie (Mike) Poumade of Annandale, VA, Mary Ann (Tim) Fohey of Lansing; grandchildren, Melinda Ward, Molly (Scott) Maus, Melodie (Rich) Hallett, Jim (Kiera) Poumade, Nathan (Stephanie) Poumade, and Cindi Fohey; great-grandchildren, Brett and Jennifer Maus, and Aiden and Kylie Poumade; one sister, Evelyn Blaauw, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by, husband Jack, her parents, sister Alice Waite, and brother Raymond Godfrey. The family would like to give a special thank you to Karen King and Julie Houghton for all of their care and kindness. Visitation will take place at Daggett Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 4pm-7pm with rosary being prayed at 6pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11am with Father Michael Burt officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Catherines name may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or Hospice of Michigan.
