Casmir "Cass" Wolak, age 79, died Tuesday, May 16, 2023 in East Grand Rapids. He was born December 27, 1943 in Detroit, the son of Joseph and Cecelia (Sklarczyk) Wolak. Cass graduated from St. Hedwig High School in 1961 and enlisted in the United States Army shortly after. He was honorably discharged after three years of service. On November 30, 1968 he married the love of his life Sylvia Lawera in Detroit. Together they spent the early years of their marriage living in Detroit and Livonia before moving to Big Rapids in 1980. After moving to Big Rapids, they became members of St. Mary Catholic Church where Cass practiced his faith for the next 43 years. He was a Tool & Die Engineer for over 35 years, mostly working for Federal Screw. Cass was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman, enjoying annual fishing trips to Saginaw Bay. He enjoyed reading the newspaper, watching all of the Detroit sports teams, and the University of Michigan. Cass loved to spend time with his grandchildren and teaching them how to fish. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sylvia of Big Rapids; children, Brian (Tiffany) Wolak of Big Rapids, Renee (Patrick) Dunn of Wyoming; sister, Eileen Antal; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; many extended family and friends. Cass was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 25, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Big Rapids with the family greeting friends one hour prior. Officiating, Monsignor Lou Stasker. Cass will be laid to rest at St. Hedwig Cemetery & Mausoleum in Dearborn Heights.

Memorial contributions may be made in Casss name to Knights of Columbus Council #1300 or St. Mary Catholic Church.
