Obituary

Kamp, Carole Ann (Bettiga) July 21, 1941 September 7, 2018 Carole Ann (Bettiga) Kamp, was born July 21, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan, to George Bettiga and Hannah (Wollersheim) Bettiga Johnson. After her fathers untimely death in 1950, the family moved back to Escanaba, Michigan, where they made their home. When Carole was 5, her grandmother taught her to play piano. She enjoyed playing for her family, and a favorite piece was Malaguea. The keyboard skills she learned from her grandmother payed off, as Carole played the pipe organ for early Mass at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Escanaba, before going to class at Holy Name High School. She graduated from Holy Name in 1959. Carole was an incredibly accomplished woman. In addition to being a licensed cosmetologist, she also earned an Associates Degree in Applied Science, a Bachelors Degree in Office Administration and Administrative Services, and a Masters Degree in Occupational Education Human Resources Development. All three of her degrees were from Ferris State University, where she was at the top of her classes in all three degree programs. She was the recipient of the Outstanding Student Award in all her degree programs, she was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa the national leadership honor society, and she was a past president of the Ferris State University chapter of the Administrative Management Society. Carole was also a member of the Michigan Occupational Educational Association, the Michigan Occupational Teacher Association, the American Vocational Association, the Ferris State University Emeriti Association, and the Kentucky Colonels. Caroles love for Ferris State extended into her professional life as well. She was the Director of Conferences and Professional Programs for the School of Life Long Learning at the university, and she was responsible for all summer youth and sports camps, conferences, workshops, and seminars, not only for Ferris State, but also for school systems, local and state organizations, community groups, and business and industries. She was instrumental in establishing the Great Lakes Electric Metering School through Consumers Energy and Ferris State University. Because of her work with the university and the community, Carole was awarded the 2000 Hometown Hero Award from the Mecosta County Convention and Visitors Bureau for her contributions to local tourism. Also in 2000, she was one of eight recipients of the Ferris State University Distinguished Staff Award. In addition to all her educational and professional accolades, Carole was a lively firecracker of a person who was a 25-year survivor of Breast Cancer, who enjoyed a good time, deeply loved her family, and cherished her friends. She inspired everyone who knew her to be the best that they could be, no matter what they were doing, and to have a good time while doing it. Carole peacefully passed away on September 7, 2018 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after a valiant battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Carole is survived by her life partner of over 30 years Walter Louis Dellinger II; her sons: Scott Little of Madison, WI and Joseph Kamp of Traverse City, MI; eight grandchildren: Melissa (Johnny) Smith-Ramos, Michelle Snyder, Andrew Snyder, Daniel Snyder, Sgt.
