Carmen D. Bean, age 78 of Stanwood, passed away Friday, October 9, 2009. He was born November 14, 1930 in Big Rapids to Carmen R. and Anna (Russell) Bean. Carmen was honorably discharged from the United States Army serving in the Korean War. He made his home in Greenville for many years, working for Mitchell-Bentley, Ranney Refrigeration and finally at the Gibson Corporation. Carmen moved to the Stanwood area to make his home in 1971. He was an active member and past Post Commander of American Legion post # 554 of Morley, a life member of V.F.W. Post #3306 of Howard City, life member of D.A.V Big Rapids Chapter #18 and Chef De Gare of the 40/8, Voiture Locale 1435. Carmen was an avid hunter and fisherman his entire life and remained as active as he could in later years. He learned the game of Euchre at a young age and was a frequent and competitive player. He also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino. Carmen will always be remembered as a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife Yvonne C. Bean, of Stanwood; A daughter, Linda (John) Cooper of Greenville; 3 sons, Jerry (Shelly) Bean of Sheridan, Danny (Cheryl) Bean of Morley, Carman (Sue) Bean of Big Rapids; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a brother Lance (Rhonda) Bean of Lakewood, CO; a sister, Phylliss Lindsey of Morley and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Carmen was preceded in death by a son, Randy J. Bean in 1999; a grandson, Jerry "Beanie" Bean Jr. in 2004; 2 great-grandsons, Jeffrey and Jacob Bean-Beamer; 4 sisters, Maxine Malich, Lavonne Wilson, Eileene Meade, Elaine Bean and 5 brothers, Richard, DeWitt, Darwin, DuWayne and DeVere Bean. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 14th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Philip Bongard officiating. Burial will follow at Aetna Township Cemetery in Morley with military honors under the auspices of V. F. W. post #3306 in Howard City. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
