Our beloved "Moon" Byron Zuchowski, left us peacefully at home on Sunday, August 30, 2009. He was born August 2, 1929 and grew up in Ironwood, MI. Although he was awarded a full scholarship to play football for Moorhead State University in Minnesota, he choose to serve his country in the Air Force. When he returned, he served as an apprentice learning the trade of bricklaying in Ironwood. He moved to Big Rapids where he helped build much of Ferris State. It was at this time he found a little time to date. Luckily, he met Diana Tussing to whom he was married 53 years. In order to stay with his family, Byron switched careers to become a licensed Master Electrician and continued his career at Ferris State University. Byron and Diana have four darling daughters, all of whom were supposed to be "Edward David" . However it wasn't in the "genes" . His daughters all remain in Michigan. Monica is from Lansing, Kathryn from Traverse City, Teresa in Big Rapids and Irene in Fruitport. He was a wonderful grandfather to Nick of Philadelphia, PA, Tiffany of Atlanta, GA, Courtney of Denver, CO, Josh of Traverse City and Kaitlyn of Fruitport. He was blessed to be a great-grandpa to Brayden Byron Sweeney. He will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. If Moon was your friend, you could count on him for anything. His idea of fun was pouring a driveway or building a chimney on a Saturday afternoon; unless it was football or hunting season. Moon was and will always be a "Yooper," with a UP heart. As such in lieu of flowers, the family and friends of Moon ask that a donation be made to benefit an Upper Peninsula student attending Ferris State University. The family will greet friends Tuesday, September 1st from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Daggett Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. A Vigil service will be held the same day (Tuesday) at 5:00 p.m., at St. Mary's Church in Big Rapids, with a reception to follow. Funeral Mass and burial will take place on Friday September 4th at St. Mary's Church in Hurley, WI. We love you forever.
