Bruce Edward Gilchrist, age 52 of Stanwood, passed away Monday, December 19, 2016 unexpectedly at his home. He was born July 17, 1964 in Grand Rapids, the son of Richard and Patricia (Bouwkamp) Gilchrist. Bruce graduated from DeWitt High School in 1982. He attended Lansing Community College and later completed his bachelor degree at Ferris State University in 2006. Bruce was currently the Assistant Director of Enrollment Tech Services at Ferris. He enjoyed traveling, riding his atv, going to the cottage, and socializing with his friends. Bruce will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and generosity in helping others. He was a wonderful son, brother, and friend. Bruce is survived by his parents, Richard and Patricia Gilchrist of Big Rapids; three siblings, Linda Gilchrist of Grand Rapids, Richard Gilchrist Jr. of Lansing, and Bonnie (Charlie Sarrell) Gilchrist of Lansing; and special friends, Greg Bart and Kathy Gleason. He was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Gilchrist. A memorial service will take place 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Reverend Carrie Adams officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
