Bruce W. Barrett, age 68 of Stanwood, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at his home. He was born in Grand Rapids on March 28, 1955, the son of Morris and Arlene (Kerns) Barrett. Bruce was a member of Madison Avenue Missionary Baptist Church in Kentwood.

He attended Lincoln School in Grand Rapids, where he was given the job of crossing guard, for many years. Bruce participated in Area 5 Special Olympics playing basketball and bowling. He looked forward to spending time on the river, riding on the pontoon and fishing.

Bruce will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his sister and caregiver, Karen (Richard) Walma of Stanwood; three nieces and nephews, Kevin (Deb) Walma of Stanwood, Robin (Dan) Fron of Newaygo, and Keith Walma of Tucson, Arizona; five great-nieces and nephews; several great-great-nieces and nephews.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. He will be laid to rest next to his family at East Elmwood Cemetery in Wayland.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bruces name to Area 5 Special Olympics.
