Obituary

Bobbie S. Jones, age 74 of Paris formerly of Alto, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 at his home. He was born April 17, 1938 in Saltville, VA, the son of Walter and Matilda (Surber) Jones. Bobbie attended St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Big Rapids for the last ten years. For most of his working life he was a truck driver for Kroger. Bobbie later owned his own mobile home repair business. He had a passion for farming and horses. Bobbie also enjoyed hunting. He is survived by his wife, Susan of Paris; seven children, James Jones of Caledonia, John Jones of Caledonia, Michael Jones of Paris, Kimberly (James) Merklinger of Lowell, Tammy Colvin of Big Rapids, Dawn Jones of Big Rapids and Jessica Jones of Big Rapids; 15 grandchildren, Bobbie, Shannon, Brandynn, Aaron, Tina, Julie, Katie, Nick, Ashley, Kristen, Jacob, Adam, Noah, Nevaeh and Skiler; 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Bobbie was preceded in death by a son, Robert Jones; a great-grandson, Ayden Colvin; two sisters, Pat Streeter and Helen Johnston; a brother, Neil "Ed" Jones and his parents. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor John Bookshaw officiating. The family will greet friends today (Tuesday, March 12th) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to services at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on the March 13th. Burial will take place 4:00 p.m. March 13th at the Bowne Center Cemetery in Bowne Township, Kent County. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bobbie's name to a fund to purchase a headstone.
