Betty L. Southworth, age 82 of Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Mercy Health St. Mary's Campus in Grand Rapids. She was born October 11, 1932 in Big Rapids, the daughter of Alton and Maude (O'Brien) Kienitz. Betty graduated from Big Rapids High School. She was a lifelong devout Catholic and a member of St. Paul Campus Parish in Big Rapids. Betty was a hard worker her entire life. To support her three children, Betty worked at several retail businesses in the area. She always enjoyed any job where she had face to face contact with people. Most recently Betty was working at the Big Rapids Dairy Queen until her health failed a couple of months ago. She enjoyed entertaining, baking, playing cards with her girlfriends and watching movies. Betty loved spending time with her family and she will be forever missed. Survivors include her son, Robert (Beth) Noe of Austin, TX; three step-children, Becky (Eric) Priebe of Saline, Mary (Mark) Waldron of Big Rapids and Tom (Vickie) Southworth of Royal Oak; two grandchildren, Allison (Dov) Lustig and Adam Noe; three step-grandchildren, Audrey Waldron and Dean (Allison) Waldron and Charlotte Southworth; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Jillian Lustig; close friend, Brenda VanSlooten of Zeeland; sister-in-law, Virginia Kienitz of Big Rapids; three nieces, Linda (Pete) Currie, Nancy (Mark) Patrick and Carrie Heemstra; nine great-nieces and nephews; as well as many other extended family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Howard "Gus" Southworth; two children, Denise and Mark Noe; stepson, Roger Southworth and brother, Alton "Al" Kienitz. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2015 at St. Paul Campus Parish in Big Rapids with Father Michael Burt officiating. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 16th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. She will be laid to rest at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Big Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
