Betty M. Murray, age 98 of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017. She was born September 4, 1918 in Pittsburgh, PA the daughter of Robert A. and Hazel A. (Dix) Patton. Betty married John Murray on October 12, 1946 and they made their home in both Pittsburgh and Erie, PA. She worked as a ticket agent for TWA and later at Halles Department Store. Betty enjoyed sewing, needlework, music and playing cards. She was a very faithful Christian woman. Betty had made her home in Big Rapids with her daughter and family for the past several years. She is survived by, her daughter, Nancy Lynne (James) Hogan of Big Rapids; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Leigh Hogan of Monterrey, Mexico, Blaze Taylor Hogan of Florida, Shane Richard Hogan of Big Rapids; step-grandchildren, James Hogan Jr. of California, Benjamin Hogan of Florida; eight nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John Webster Murray in 1976 and her beloved brother, Marion A. Patton. Bettys family is planning a memorial service and burial this summer in Erie, PA.
