Obituary

Betty Mae Mattson, age 90 of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Altercare of Big Rapids. She was born February 9, 1922 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Frank and Helen (Shipman) Murray. Betty Mae made her home in Grand Rapids and Pierson. She later moved to Hersey with her husband Walter Mattson for 14 years and together they were members of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Reed City. Betty Mae sang in the church choir, was a member of the church group, Circle Three, and was very active in TOPS and KOPS program winning many awards. For the last 15 years Betty Mae resided in Big Rapids. She is survived by her son, Bob (Barb) Woodward of Gowen; four step-sons, Chuck (Paula) Mattson of Park Forest, IL, Brian (Dee) Mattson of Gwinn, Steve (Brenda) Mattson of Norton Shores, and Stan (Pennie) Mattson of Tustin; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Betty Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Mattson on March 2, 2012; her sister, Beulah; and her parents. Memorial contributions in Betty Mae's name may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 22275 Chippewa Road, Reed City, MI 49677. No public services have been scheduled at this time.
