Betty M. Doxtater, age 88 of Big Rapids, passed away Friday, July 24, 2015 at her grandson's home. She was born February 5, 1927 in Wyandotte, the daughter of James and Mildred (Crawford) Cook. Betty graduated from Howard City High School in 1945. She married her husband, Howard Doxtater Sr. on June 7, 1945 and together they raised nine children in Grant Center. After Betty's children were grown she began her career in home health care. She was a lifetime member of the Big Rapids Unit #18 - Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, the Roger Heights VFW Auxiliary Post 4102 and the International Association of Rebekah Assemblies. Betty loved everything about nature; gardening, animals and especially horses. She is survived by nine children, Howard Doxtater Jr. of Belding, Elaine Bradley of Grand Rapids, Betty (Larry) VanSolkema of Remus, Stephen (Joyce) Doxtater of Big Rapids, Merry (Timothy) Hitchens of Florida, Donna (Steve) Collins of Paris, Beverly Sadam of Evart, Doreen Hansen of Big Rapids and Mark (Teri) Doxtater of Stanwood; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Doxtater Sr.; parents, brother, two sisters and three grandchildren. Funeral services will take place 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2015 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Bruce Peterson officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
