Betty Jean (Cruickshank) Cole-Keller passed away April 25th, in Hudsonville, Michigan. A beautifully kind woman, she lived a long and fulfilling life. She was preceded in death by an infant son Edwin, her first husband William Allan Cole Jr., Mother Hallene (Lamken), Father, Edwin M Cruickshank, nephews, Vernon Cruickshank and Robert Cruickshank, three brothers, James, Edwin and Robert. Her second husband, William Donald and her six children survive Betty: Evelyn Jean Howrey (Portland, OR), William A. III (Laramie, WY), John (Judy) (Casper, WY), James R. (Janine) (Cheyenne, WY), Leslie E. Stoike (Mike) (Big Rapids), Ann M. Kreiser (Jeff) (Hudsonville, MI) and one step daughter Constance K. (Ken) Alderson (Sioux City, IA). She has fifteen grandchildren: Thea (Howrey) Teeter (Tracy, CA), Linda Howrey (Portland, OR), Donna (Cole) Rau (Lakenheath AFB, Eng), William A. Cole IV (Kennewick, WA), Shannon Cole (Casper, WY), Andrea (Cole) McLimore (Casper, WY), Luke, Benjamin and Gabrielle Cole (Cheyenne, WY), Christopher, Elizabeth and Gregory Stoike (Big Rapids), Austin Bauer (Wyoming, MI), Jordon Bauer (Hudsonville, MI) Jakson Kreiser (Hudsonville, MI) and one step grand-daughter Kendra Alderson (Sioux City, IA). Betty also has eleven great grandchildren: Jeremy and Benjamin Teeter, Adelaide and Eliana Rau, Jade and Falon Cole, Madison and Ryane McLimore, Alexis and Jayden Bauer. Betty is survived by her sister Evelyn Park (Casper, WY), sister in-laws LaVere (Worland, WY) and Rosalie (Denver, CO); cousins Fredyne (Lamken) Rusk (Villisca, IA) and Jack Curry (Littleton, CO); and many nieces and nephews. Born December 24, 1919 in Douglas, Wyoming and raised in Medicine Bow, Betty was proud of her Wyoming heritage. She graduated from Medicine Bow High School in 1938 and attended the University of Wyoming where she met W.A. Cole Jr. They were married in Laramie at Saint Matthew's Episcopal Cathedral in 1940. They raised their family in Laramie, Casper and Big Rapids where William A. passed away in 1972. From a very early age Betty was active in the Episcopal Church. She developed strong relationships with her priests and her church families. She was baptized and confirmed at Saint Luke's in Medicine Bow; she was actively involved at Saint Matthew's in Laramie and Saint Mark's in Casper. After moving to Big Rapids she joined Saint Andrew's, where she formed long and lasting friendships and met William Keller and in 1976 they were married. In addition to her church life Betty enjoyed working with Job's Daughters in both Casper and Big Rapids. She enjoyed entertaining in her home, gardening, playing Club Bridge and traveling. Both Betty and William were extremely proud of their grandchildren and frequently traveled across the country to celebrate their various accomplishments. They were fortunate to travel around the country and abroad and to take grandchildren along for the adventure. Betty was especially "taken" with men named "Bill." Both her husbands were blessed with that name---both Bill Cole and Bill Keller. Also, her eldest son was, named Bill III, a grandson Bill IV and a great-grandson Bill V. Betty was especially "drawn" to accounting professors. Bill Cole taught accounting at Ferris State University from 1966 until his death in 1972. Bill Keller was also a Ferris Accounting professor from 1974 through 1996. Betty's first husband, Bill Cole II, also developed successful law practices in Casper, Big Rapids. Bill Cole's Mother, Mae, also lived with Betty and the family for many years and was cared for by Betty even after all of the six Cole children married and moved away from home, all this while working full time. During Betty's working years, she did secretarial work for mining, and oil production firms in the State of Wyoming. In Big Rapids she was employed for many years in the office of Michigan Consolidated Gas Company, retiring in 1983. Betty will be remembered by all as a truly loving and giving friend, wife, mother and grandmother. Donations may be made to Manna Pantry of St. Andrew's Church, 323 S. Funeral services will take 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 30th at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 323 South State Street in Big Rapids with The Reverend John English officiating. Interment is scheduled at 3:00 p.m. at Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids.
