Just nine months short of 100 years old, Bertha Mae Zuke, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 2, 2018 at her home. She was born at home in the Barryton area to William and Lydia (Buxton) Snider on December 15, 1918; the eldest of five children.
Bertha married Albert Robinson in 1944. They were employed at a Detroit Airplane factory making parts during World War II. In 1949, she married Charles T. Zuke, Sr. and together they made their home on 120 acres in Green Township.
In addition to caring for a large family, Bertha liked to quilt and embroidery. She enjoyed her garden and will always be remembered for her famous banana bread.
Bertha is survived by six children; Pamela (Larry) Cass of Reed City, LeRoy Robinson of Big Rapids, who provided generous and loving care to his mother for many years, Charles (Janice) Zuke, Jr. of Barryton, Charlene (Ernie) Hileman of Big Rapids, Connie (Darrell) Wilkinson of Stanwood and Colleen (Tom Baldwin) Morgan of Big Rapids. Bertha was blessed by 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Survivors also include many nieces and nephews.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Fred Snider, Ocie Holcomb, Lucinda Sprague and Harland Snider.
The family will greet friends on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. A private graveside funeral service will take place later this spring at Park Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Berthas memory may be made to the Third Avenue United Methodist Church Luncheon Program.
