Bernell L. Beemer, age 93 of Rogers Heights, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024, at his home. He was born to Theo and Violet (Stevens) Beemer in Lakeview on June 2, 1930. Bernell was raised on a farm and loved farming with his family. He had many jobs over his lifetime. Bernell was a truck driver for Kitsons in Morley and later foreman. He was also a Mecosta County Deputy and fireman. Bernell and his wife, Donna moved to Barryton where he drove school bus. Bernell and Donna owned and operated Beemers Adult Foster Care Homes, Beemers Refuse Service and Beemers Stable. His passion was the love of horses. Bernell owned and trained many harness horses. Beemers Wild Card won the Michigan Sires Stakes in 1994 and was the two-year-old Michigan Trotting Colt Stake Champion of 1994. Bernell was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He enjoyed singing old songs and "poems" from his childhood to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of MHHA and The Fraternal Order of Eagles 2535 Big Rapids. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna; children, Bill, Peggy Davenport, Tom, Andy (Tim), Karil Lewis, Harriette (Troy) Leiby, Robert (Glen); and special nephew, Jim Beemer; siblings, Geraldine Wixon, Billy, and Dennis; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Bernell was preceded in death by his parents, children Richard, Cindy Harris and daughter-in-law Helen Beemer, siblings Clyle (Charlene), Lorna (Almy) Moore, Yvonne (Ed) Wernette, Nancy Hopkins, Beverly (Don) Weeks, Vernon, and Audrey Hooper. Brother in law Terry Wixon, and sister in law Sharon Beemer. A Celebration of Life and Time of Sharing will be held at the Big Rapids Eagles on Monday, June 3, 2024. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon) with the Time of Sharing from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Eagles. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Michigan.
