Bernadine Emily Bowen, age 99 of Barryton, passed away peacefully February 10, 2023 at Prestige Centre in Mt. Pleasant. She was born October 21, 1923 in Gilmore Township, the daughter of Eugene and Myrtle (Crowley) Buskard. Bernadine graduated from Farwell High School, the class of 1941. Bernadine married Olin Bowen on March 17, 1946 in Farwell, and together they raised their kids on the family farm in Coldwater Township. She attended Bay City Business College and worked at Mutual Savings and Loan in Mt. Pleasant until she retired in 1986. From there she worked at the Mecosta Senior Center for 20 years before her vision became too bad to drive. She was loved by her colleagues and was said to have an amazing sense of humor, dry as the Sahara Desert. She loved sewing, crafting, crossword puzzles and reading. Throwing caution to the wind, she traveled to Arizona and Florida to visit her sisters whenever she could. A true city girl turned country girl, she enjoyed chasing cows and all things country-life. In her later years, she loved feeding the outdoor wildlife, including birds, cats and the occasional raccoon. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Simon; two sons, Ken (Kay) Bowen, Michael (Alan Redding) Bowen; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. Bernadine was preceded in death by her husband, Olin Bowen; all nine siblings; one adopted sister; and her son-in-law, Jude (Judy) Simon. Funeral services will take place Wednesday, February 15, 2023, 2 pm at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton, visitation 1 pm. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in North Brinton Cemetery. Reverend Jeremy Wicks will officiate. A recording of the service will be uploaded below.
