Obituary

Benjamin Franklin Chupp, Jr., 92, passed peacefully November 13, 2022, with his family gathered around him. Ben was born February 28, 1930, to Benjamin Franklin, Sr. and Edna (Parker) Chupp. Ben graduated from Reed City Schools earning his high school diploma. He served in the United States Navy from 1949 to 1950. Ben married Sondra Knuth in 1951, they were married for 71 years. In 1951, Ben reenlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church since 1951. Ben loved to fish and spent many hours with his sons doing what he loved. Ben also enjoyed hunting, gardening and woodworking; these were some of his many hobbies. He retired from Mich-Con Gas company in 1989 as a heavy equipment operator. Together with his wife, they raised seven children. Gloria (Don Ross) Cooley of Big Rapids, Susan Essenberg of Kingsley, Ben (Michelle) Chupp of Kingsley, Diane (Steve) Garchow of Rodney, Sandy (John) Lorenz of Evart, Bradley (Denise) Chupp of Decatur, Alabama and Christine Kirby of Leesville, Louisiana. Together they had 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Ben was preceeded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Edna Chupp, three granddaughters, two son in-laws, two sisters and two brothers.
