Benjamin O. Blackmer, age 81of Barryton, passed away Friday, August 4, 2017 in Grand Rapids. He was born June 25, 1936 in Blanchard, to Lawrence and Orpha (Meier) Blackmer. Ben graduated from Barryton Rural Agricultural High School in 1955 and married Bonnie Earnest on March 16, 1963. For 50 years he worked throughout Michigan on the pipeline through Local 190. He was employed at the nuclear plant in Midland and together with Bonnie owned and operated the Barryton Hardware for many years. Ben was a member of the Weidman Eagles, Barryton American Legion and active in the Barryton community when he was able.

Ben is survived by three sons: David (Carol) Blackmer of Barryton, Ross W. Blackmer of Lake and Tony (Beth) Blackmer of Lake; two grandchildren, Carolyn Ruelle and Benjamin Blackmer; four great-grandchildren, Shawn and Hannah Ruelle and Adrianna Blackmer and Bishop Blackmer; siblings, Katherine Lucas and Thomas Blackmer and many extended family and friends.

Ben was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Bonnie in 2006, one grandson Allen Blackmer; siblings, Aaron, Fred and Harvey Blackmer, Ina Tomaszewski, Doris Lolli, Donella Spayd and Barb VanNortwick.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 10th, 2017 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton. Burial will be at North Brinton Cemetery in Lake.

The family will greet friends on Wednesday, August 9th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
