Ben J. Bradford Sr., age 80 of Big Rapids, passed away Monday, January 1, 2007. He was born June 1, 1926 in Grand Rapids to Mike and Margie (Veenstra) Bradford. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy serving during World War II. Following his discharge Ben served as a policeman and firefighter for the City of East Grand Rapids. He then moved to Newaygo County where he was a deputy Sheriff for Newaygo County, retiring after many years of service. Ben was the founder and a life member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Ben Bradford Lodge #135, named in his honor, an original member of the Newaygo County Sheriff divers team, and a member of the Croton American Legion Post #381. He is survived by; His wife Lorraine Bradford of Big Rapids 6 sons: Roger (Karen) Bradford of Las Vegas, NV Dan Bradford of San Diego, CA Kelly West of Niles Pat (Terri) Bradford of Rockford Dave (Sue) Bradford of Grand Rapids Ben Jack Jr. (Tess) Bradford of Sterling Heights Daughter-in-law: Lucille Bradford of Lake City Many grandchildren and great grandchildren Sister: Betty Wilkowski of Marne and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Ben was preceded in death by a son; Marty Bradford. Memorial services will take place 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the Croton American Legion Post # 381 with Chaplin George Jingles officiating.
