Beatrice C. Hoolihan, age 95 of Lakeview, passed away Monday, December 23, 2013. She was born June 13, 1918 in Mecosta County. As a child the family made their home in Ionia and later moved to Traverse City where Bea met and married John Hoolihan The couple moved to Mecosta County where they operated farms in the surrounding communities. They later purchased their own farm near Stanwood where Bea made her home until 2000. She was a long time member of St. Apollonia's Catholic Church in Morley, where she was a member of the Altar Society, taught Catechism and sang in the choir. Following the closing of St. Apollonia's, Bea attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big Rapids. After leaving the farm in 2000, Bea lived with her daughter Ruth Ann for 12 years, there she enjoyed her five great-grandchildren who lived next door; Danielle, Teddy, Terry, Courtney and Ben; their parents, Michael and Kelly Grant and especially little Courtney who came everyday to help with her grandma. Most recently, Bea had been living at the Spectrum Health Rehab and Nursing Center-Kelsey in Lakeview. Bea was an avid reader, she loved gardening, holiday gatherings, feeding and watching the humming birds and squirrels in the back yard. She will always be remembered as a very giving person. Bea is survived by her three children, Ruth Ann Hoolihan of Lakeview, Phyllis Grant of Rodney, James (Marie) Hoolihan of Lakeview; six grandchildren, Michael Grant, Timothy Grant, Debra Blodgett, Tom Grant, Kimberly Jensen, Chad Jensen; 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; three nieces and one nephew. Bea was preceded in death by her husband, John Hoolihan in 1998, her son Johnny Hoolihan in 1955 and her son-in-law, David Grant in 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big Rapids with Father Charles Schwartz officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Interment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions in Bea's name may be made to either St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big Rapids or Spectrum Health Hospice.
