Barbara Anna Watros, age 82 of Stanwood, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at home with her family at her side. She was born on August 15, 1934 in Lansing, Michigan to Peter and Velma (Grant) Maurer. When Barbara was a teenager her family moved to Charlevoix. She met and married Clifton Watros and they made their home in Charlevoix before moving to Stanwood in 1997.Barbara crocheted when she was able. When her health declined, she stayed close to home and enjoyed watching the wildlife outdoors from the window and westerns on t.v. Barbara was a caring, giving and wonderful person, who was there when you needed her.Barbara is survived by three children, Linda Anderson of Stanwood, Michael (Diana) Anderson of Lowell and Cecil Hawkins of St. Louis; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, whom she loved very much; special friends, Chuck and Star Fitzgerald, who spent numerous hours attending to Barb; and many nieces and nephews, who always remained close to her heart. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Clifton in 2006; sons, Roy Hawkins and Mark and Tony Anderson; and one brother, Lawrence Maurer.A celebration of Barbs life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the Mecosta Township Hall (19729 11 Mile Road, Big Rapids).Memorial donations in Barbaras name can be made to the American Cancer Society.Arrangements have been entrusted to the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
