Barbara "Barb" Vining, age 90, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024 in Alpena. She was born October 15, 1933 in Big Rapids, the daughter of Loren and Rose Olson. Barb graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1951. She married Frank Vining on February 23, 1957 in the Rectory of St. Mary Catholic Church where she was a lifelong member. After Franks death in 1982, Barb became the secretary for the County Commissioner until her retirement. She was an active member of the Big Rapids Alumni Association. Barb especially enjoyed volunteering for the Big Rapids All Class Reunion. She was an avid reader, loved to listen to Elvis and play card games. Most of all, Barb cherished the time she spent with her friends, family and grandchildren. Barb is survived by her children, Craig (Mary) Vining of Alpena, Jackie (Chad) SanCartier of Frederic; sisters, Glenna Fisher, Ruthann Kailing, Mary Johansen; grandchildren, Kyle Wagner, Cole Wagner, Nicholas Saum, Eric Saum, Rose SanCartier; many great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank Vining; grandson, Jeff Saum; great-grandson Jaxon Saum; two brothers, Loren and John Olson; sister, Kay Meinke; and Goddaughter, Karmen Douglass. Memorial contributions may be made in Barbs name to Hospice of Michigan. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends an hour prior at the church. Officiating, Father Jegar Fickel. She will be laid to rest at Higbee Cemetery.
