Obituary

Barbara J. Piggott, age 91 of Big Rapids joined the heavenly choir while surrounded by family on Monday, June 10, 2019. She was born on November 28, 1927 in Benton Harbor, the daughter of Charles and Mary Maurita (McClave) Bishop. Barbara met Walton Piggott while in college and on their third date he asked, "How would you like to be a coach's wife?". They were married on June 25, 1950. Barbara dedicated herself as a wonderful mother and coachs wife. She and Walt loved each other and shared their love with others by helping people who needed it and volunteering.

Barbara and Walt were devout, lifelong members of the First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids. They sang in the choir, helped in the library, ran coffee fellowships, and assisted in the nursery. Barbara was a talented seamstress, baker, and knitter. She enjoyed playing scrabble, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Barbara appreciated nature and watching the birds on her property where her home was built. She was a survivor and a fighter who never had a complaint; a few of the traits she passed on to her children and grandchildren. Barbara's family was important; she had memorable relationships with them, especially her Grandma McClave who she spent a lot of time with growing up.

She loved her family and they will miss her greatly. Barbara is survived by her four children, Susan (Dale) Rivers, Mary (Rudy) Rosner, Diane (Don) Lobel, and David (Cindy) Piggott; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Jordan (Joan) Bishop, Janet (Joe) Flaugh, Richard (Delores) Bishop, Charlotte Egan, Margaret (George) Richter, Elizabeth Martin, and Kathleen Wageley; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walton Piggott on August 8, 2015; sister, Orpha Goss; and three brothers-in-law, Pat Egan, Tom Martin, and Ed Wageley.

Private family graveside services are being planned for a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in Barbara's name to "FSU Coach Walton & Barbara Piggott Endowment" and mailed to 420 Oak St., Prakken 101, Big Rapids, MI 49307 or online at www.coachpiggott.org or to the Alzheimer's Association - Greater Michigan Chapter, 25200 Telegraph Road, Suite 100, Southfield, MI 48033-7443.
