Barbara Joann Obert, age 60 of Big Rapids, passed away Friday, January 19, 2018 at Spectrum Health Meijer Heart Center, surrounded by her family. She was born October 3, 1957 in Royal Oak the daughter of Autery and Josephine (Sibary) Lawler. Barb graduated from White Cloud High School in 1975 and on August 23 of that same year she married Edward Obert. Together they made their home in Big Rapids where Barb worked as a supervisor for the proof department at Old Kent Bank in Big Rapids for 22 years. In 1998 Barb began employment at the City of Big Rapids working in the treasurers office until this year. Barb enjoyed shopping and attending craft shows. She appreciated the outdoors especially when she was camping, fishing and enjoying bonfires. She liked to bake and loved spending time with her dogs. She is survived by her husband of over 42 years, Ed Obert of Big Rapids; her daughter, Miranda (Jeff) Harvell of Stanwood; a brother, Gene (Judy) Lawler of Stockbridge; brothers-in-law, Steve (Denise) Obert of Middlebury, IN, Michael (Sylvia) Obert of Big Rapids; sisters-in-law, Brenda Obert-Pereira of Big Rapids, Kim (Vince) Speese of Morley; mother-in-law, Joan Obert of Big Rapids; many nieces, nephews, dear friend, Linda Wood of Comstock Park and her precious puppy, Jessie. Barb was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law, Lucielle Herring; father-in-law, Jim Obert and her niece, Janet Lawler Lapinski. A memorial service will take place at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Big Rapids Eagles, (18631 16 Mile Road) with Mr. Scott Davidson officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services at 2:00 p.m. A meal will be served following the memorial service. To honor Barbs love for dogs and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to A.R.C. of Mecosta County.
