Barbara Covey died peacefully at her residence on December 23, 2021, with members of her family by her side. Barbara Covey was born July 8, 1933, in Grant Center, Michigan to Leslie and Esther (Paine) Reed. She married Gerald (Jerry) Covey on July 2, 1955. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald (Jerry) Covey; parents, Leslie and Esther (Paine) Reed; brothers, Carl, Norman, and Arthur Reed; and son-in-law Jack Carpenter. Barbara is survived by two daughters, Valerie Willett (Robert), and Anita Carpenter; two sons, Martin (Kim) Covey and Bruce (Jennifer) Covey; brother, Glen Reed, all of Lakeview; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren (with one on the way) and 1 great-great grandchild; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was a long-time member of the Brockway Church in Morley, Michigan. Barbara retired as secretary of Brockway Wesleyan Church and Brockway Christian Academy in which capacity she faithfully served for many years. Jerry and Barbara were longtime residents of the Stanwood area until moving to the Lakeview area five years ago. Barbara is most remembered for her faithful service to her loved ones. Her wonderful meals are fondly remembered by all members of her family, with each person having a favorite. She spent many years caregiving for her parents, her parents-in-law, sister-in-law, and two of her granddaughters. Even in their retirement years, Jerry worked long, late hours. It did not matter the lateness of the hour, when Jerry came home from work, Barbie (as she was fondly called by Jerry) was up waiting for him, providing him with something good to eat and companionship. Beyond her love and service to her family, Barbara was truly a lover of animals. Whether it was a cat or a dog, she had a natural ability to provide care for her animals when they were ill or injured. Her final canine companion, Lady, preceded her in death two weeks before Barbara passed away. A memorial service celebrating Barbaras life will be Friday, July 8, 2022, at Brockway Wesleyan Church, Morley Michigan. Visitation will be 10:00am 11:00am with the memorial service immediately following. Interment will be at Hinton Cemetery.
