Austin Poortvliet, age 20 of Barryton, formerly of Bitely, passed away on October 29, 2017 in Grand Rapids. He was born on July 30, 1997 to Gary and Stephanie (Traill) Poortvliet Jr. in Grand Rapids, MI. He attended school at Crossroads Charter Academy and graduated in 2016. For the last year Austin worked in shipping and receiving at H & R Screw in Reed City and was previously employed at McDonalds throughout High School.

Austin enjoyed Boy Scouts in Big Rapids and Morley-Stanwood. He was always active in parkour and in high school he took up Graphics at the Career Center, where he used his love of drawing and art.

Austin's compassion, humbleness, and helpfulness will not soon be forgotten by his parents, Gary and Stephanie and siblings, Gary III, Amber and Colt. He will be deeply missed by his paternal grandparents, Gary (Mary) Poortvliet Sr. of Bitely; maternal grandmother, Judy Traill, step-grandmother, Pat Traill; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and beloved friends, who knew if they needed a helping hand, Austin would be there.

Austin was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Leonard Traill and paternal grandmother, Sue Poortvliet.

Visitation will be held at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids, on Friday, November 3, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until 2:00 p.m.

Funeral services will follow visitation at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Lyle Ball officiating.
