Arthur H. Tessin Jr., age 85 of Big Rapids, formerly of Grayling passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011. He was born August 25, 1925 in Saginaw the son of Arthur H. and Vera (Crane) Tessin. Arthur left school to serve in World War II and returned to graduate with the 1946 class of Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy after serving during World War II. He later enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after serving in the Korean War. Following his discharged, Arthur lived in Detroit where he met and married Marion Smale. The couple moved to California in 1955. Art was a gifted salesman and had been employed as a Vice President for Motorola and the branch manager of Sanders & Sullivan/Peterson Insurance Agency while in California. Art and Marion along with their children moved back to Michigan in 1969 to be closer to other family, where he continued in sales for many years. Art and Marion finally made their home in Grayling where, for over 30 years, Art was established as a self employed Locksmith. After Marion's death in 2009, Art moved to Big Rapids to be near his family. No matter where he lived Arthur was very civic minded. He contributed to his community and was a member of several organizations including the Grayling Chamber of Commerce, the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #0154 of Saginaw Valley and Lodge #356 of Grayling, Eagles aerie #3465 of Grayling, a charter member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge #2400 of Milpitas, California and the Grayling Rotary Club. He is survived by 2 children; a son Kriss M. (Deborah) Tessin of Big Rapids, a daughter, Kim Hard of Monticello, Georgia; 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, Jim and Willard "Bud" Tessin and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife Marion, Arthur was preceded in death by a sister, Joan. There are no public services being planned at this time.
