Obituary

Arnold W. Sharp, age 87 of Stanwood, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2008. He was born May 10, 1921 in Deerfield Township, Mecosta County to Claud and Nora Belle (Brandow) Sharp. He married Helen B. Scott on December 14, 1941. The ceremony was performed by Helen's father, Pastor George W. Scott at his home near Big Rapids. Together they owned and operated a farm in Austin Township where Arnold was a dairy farmer for over 30 years. Arnold later went to work at Ferris State University on their custodial staff, retiring in 1986. During retirement Arnold and Helen were the caretakers at the four cemeteries in Deerfield Township. They enjoyed camping at many county and state parks. Arnold, who was a skilled woodworker, sold many of his woodcrafts at craft shows throughout the area. Arnold is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Helen; 3 children, Donna (Jerry) Krum of Morley, Richard (Barbara) Sharp and Joyce (Larry) White of Mecosta; 21 Grandchildren, Brian (Brenda) Krum, Kim (Troy) Johnson, Naomi (Glenn) Cawley, Jeri Jo (Daniel) Rolston, Richard Jr. (Leslie) Sharp, Annette (Harry) Coles, Cindy (David) Flynn, Nicole Perrin, Jeff (Sheila) Godbold, Matt (Tracy) Godbold, Joanne (Steve) Goforth; 29 Great-Grandchildren, Keri (David) Ruhling, Jayson and Billy Krum, Heather and Daniel Matthews, Robyn and Adam Cawley, Beth, Cody, and Kailey Ellison, Logan and Madison Sharp, Nathan Coles, David Jr. and Kayla Champlain, Haily , Patti, and David Flynn Jr., Aeron, Stephanie, and Jacob Perrin, Ashlee Godbold, Matt Jr. and Kayla Godbold, Tony Gatehouse, Nick (Sara) Schoner, Sarahmae (Dennis) Howe; 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren, Lily Ruhling, and Damian Howe; a sister, Alberta Wilber of Stanwood; several nieces and nephews; and a Godchild, Becky Canter. Besides his parents Arnold was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Roy, Earl, Chet, and Harry Sharp; 2 sisters, Gladys Kimball and Laura Resler; and a great-grandchild, Cassie Perrin. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 31st at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Wayne Bullock officiating. The family will greet friends on Thursday at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Burial will be at Higbee Cemetery near Morley.
