Arlene Nora Skewes, lifelong resident of Barryton went home to be with her Lord on Friday, May 22, 2009 at the age of 79. She was born May 20, 1930 in Barryton to Robert and Mary (Vincent) Cummings. Arlene graduated from Barryton Rural Agricultural High School in 1949. She married the late O. Delmar Gieseler and they made their home in Barryton. Arlene was the longest standing (lifelong) member of the Barryton Church of God where she took part in church hospitality by writing to shut-ins. Arlene was dedicated to working in the Children's Ward at the State Home in Mt. Pleasant where she retired. Arlene loved nature. She enjoyed collecting stones, tending to her garden, hunting when she was younger and had the unique ability to gather the family together to complete a project. She is survived by her husband of 15 years Ward L. Skewes of Barryton, Children: Mary Lou (Gieseler) Green, Janice (Gieseler) Kurtz, Jerry Gieseler, Curt Skewes, Diana Grau, Dean Skewes, Tim Skewes, Nola Perrott and Neil Skewes, Sisters; Madalyn Bacon, her twin Irene (Ralph) Kroy and Bernadine (Floyd) Welton, brother-in-law Glenn Rankin and many grand, great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and beloved friends. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband O. Delmar, son, Rollin James Gieseler, daughter, Julia Skewes, an infant brother, Henry and 5 sisters; Mildred Huffman, Gertrude Smith, Louise Roby, Pauline Walter and Eva Rankin. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 25th at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Barryton Church of God with interment following at Flake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Arlene's name may be given to the Barryton Church of God.
