Ardella M. Shippell, age 95 of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022. She was born at home in Mecosta Township on February 18, 1926, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Edith (Rorick) Yarrington. Ardella was a member of Big Rapids First Baptist Church. She looked forward to attending church and reading her Bible. Ardella married Leon "Danny" Shippell on June 5, 1949 in Big Rapids and together they made their home and raised their daughter in Marshall. She was employed by Kellogg for 36 years. Following retirement, they moved back to Big Rapids in 1984. Ardella was a talented cook and baker but also looked forward to canning and freezing food harvested from their large garden. She enjoyed watching Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. Ardella is survived by her daughter Vickie (James) Noble of Big Rapids; three grandchildren, Daniel (Michelle) Negus, Julie Grimes, and Matthew Shippell; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth Goodman of Albion; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2005, and eight siblings. Arrangements and care entrusted to the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
