Annie Groza, age 95 of Big Rapids, passed away July 19, 2023, at Altercare of Big Rapids. She was born August 5, 1927, in Yugoslavia, the daughter of John and Alexsandra (Ckitarescu) Ocolisan. When Annie was ten years old, her family moved to Canada where they became tobacco farmers. They purchased a farm that they eventually sold and purchased another tobacco farm in Rodney, Ontario, where Annie was raised.
She was a war bride marrying Theodore Groza on October 19, 1946, and together they made their home in Harper Woods, Michigan. Annie and Theodore moved back to Rodney, Ontario to help her parents farm until 1961, when they moved to Fraser, Michigan. After Theodore passed in 2002, Annie moved to Big Rapids to live with her daughter Cathleen.
She enjoyed crocheting and embroidery. Annie looked forward to playing Bingo and participating in the activities at Altercare with the nursing staff, which she adored. She liked shopping for hats and wearing them to parties with her family.
Annie is survived by her daughter Linda (Randy Beguhn) Groza of Big Rapids; five nieces and one nephew; and her fury grandchildren, Axel, Luna, and Harley.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Theodore, daughter Cathleen Groza in 2008, and sister Florence (Teddy) Stoini.
